Case sealer
Also known as: Carton sealer, Case taper
German: Kartonverschließer
In packaging, a case sealer is a packaging machine that folds and closes the top flaps, and on some models the bottom flaps, of filled corrugated cases with tape or hot-melt glue.
- Intralogistics
In one sentence
A case sealer folds and closes the flaps of filled corrugated cases with adhesive tape or hot-melt glue.
Example
Filled cases pass through a random case sealer that adjusts automatically to the height and width of each case before taping.
How it applies
- Engineering: Uniform case sealers are set for one case size; random case sealers adjust to varying sizes automatically. Tape heads contain knives that cut the tape.
- Operation: Changing the tape roll and adjusting for new case sizes are frequent operator tasks.
- Safety: Tape knives and in-running drive belts are typical hazards. Knife guards and correct tape-changing procedures matter; see Cutting hazard. Where hot-melt glue is used, thermal hazards add to the list.
- Documentation: Write the tape change as an illustrated task with the knife hazard warned at the step where it applies, not only in a general safety chapter. Include settings for each case size and a short troubleshooting table for loose flaps, crooked tape and jams.
Case sealer vs. case erector
The Case erector forms empty cases and seals the bottom; the case sealer closes filled cases. Both may use the same sealing technology.
