iiRDS/A
Also known as: iiRDS/A package, archive variant, restricted iiRDS for archiving
In iiRDS (intelligent information Request and Delivery Standard), iiRDS/A is a restricted iiRDS variant for archiving. An iiRDS/A package contains only a defined set of widespread, future-proof content formats, is self-contained, and sets iirds:formatRestriction to A.

- Information architecture
In one sentence
iiRDS/A is the archiving variant of iiRDS: self-contained packages limited to future-proof formats such as PDF/A, iiRDS XHTML5, PNG and MP4.
Example
A manufacturer archives the complete documentation of a discontinued product line as iiRDS/A packages, so it can still be opened in twenty years without the original authoring tools.
How it applies
- Content formats: Structured text must be iiRDS XHTML5 (
.xhtml) or PDF/A-3; unstructured text must be PDF/A-3. Raster graphics are PNG or JPEG, vector graphics restricted static SVG 1.1, video MP4 (H.264), audio MP3. - Self-contained: All links and URIs in the content point to resources inside the package, apart from a few in-document cross-references. The content must remain usable without internet access.
- Metadata: Metadata is used exactly as in unrestricted iiRDS — only the content formats are restricted. An iiRDS/A package may nest only other iiRDS/A packages.
- MedTech and compliance: Where documentation must be retained for many years after a device is placed on the market, iiRDS/A combines long-term readable formats with the metadata needed to find the right content later.
iiRDS/A vs. iiRDS/H
Both are restricted variants. iiRDS/A restricts content formats for archiving. iiRDS/H also restricts and mandates metadata, for legally compliant handover of documentation for a specific product.
In RDF
Shown in Turtle for readability — inside a package, metadata.rdf is written in RDF/XML.
