iiRDS FragmentSelector
Also known as: fragment selector
In iiRDS (intelligent information Request and Delivery Standard), a FragmentSelector selects a part of a file by a single identifier. The identifier is given in rdf:value and is interpreted according to the specification named in dcterms:conformsTo — for example a page number in a PDF.

In one sentence
An iiRDS FragmentSelector points to one location in a file by a single identifier, such as page=12 in a PDF rendition.
Example
rdf:value “page=12” together with dcterms:conformsTo RFC 3778 (the PDF media type) selects page 12 of a PDF rendition.
How it applies
- Safety: A fragment selector can point to exactly the page or element that holds a warning, so a portal or machine display can open it directly.
- AI and retrieval: Precise identifiers let an assistant deep-link its answer to the exact location it came from — a verifiable citation instead of a vague reference to a manual.
- Semantic web: The combination of
rdf:valueanddcterms:conformsTofollows the same pattern as selectors in the W3C Web Annotation Data Model, which makes the data familiar to RDF tooling.
FragmentSelector vs. RangeSelector
A FragmentSelector marks one location. A RangeSelector marks a section between two locations — and uses two fragment selectors to do so, one for the start and one for the end.
