Resource configuration

Also known as: Resource configuration (IEC 61499)

German: Ressourcenkonfiguration

In IEC 61499, a resource configuration is the specification of a resource within a device configuration: its resource type, parameters and the function block network, including mapped application parts and service interface function blocks, that it executes.

  • Standards

In one sentence

An IEC 61499 resource configuration specifies a resource's type, parameters and the function block network it executes.

Example

The resource configuration of the HMI resource contains the mapped visualization blocks and publish/subscribe blocks for exchanging data with the control resource.

How it applies

  • Engineering: After mapping, each resource holds the function block instances assigned to it, plus the service interface blocks for I/O and communication. The resource configuration is what the tool deploys to the device.
  • Commissioning: Resources can typically be started, stopped and reconfigured independently, which allows staged commissioning of large systems.
  • Change management: The contents of each resource at delivery form part of the Configuration baseline. Changes deployed later must be recorded.
  • Documentation: For each resource, document its purpose, the applications or parts it runs and its communication partners. This helps service staff decide which resource to restart or inspect.

Resource configuration vs. device configuration

The Device configuration covers the whole device and its parameters. A resource configuration covers one resource within that device.
