Tray packer
Also known as: Tray former and packer, Tray packing machine
German: Traypacker
In packaging, a tray packer is a packaging machine that forms trays from flat corrugated blanks around a group of products or places products into preformed trays, often followed by shrink wrapping.
- Intralogistics
In one sentence
A tray packer forms corrugated trays around product groups or fills preformed trays, often before shrink wrapping.
Example
The tray packer wraps a corrugated tray around 12 cans and hands the pack to the shrink tunnel.
How it applies
- Engineering: Wraparound tray packers fold the blank around the product group and glue it. Combined with shrink wrapping, trays provide stable, retail-ready packs.
- Operation: Blank quality, glue settings and product grouping determine pack quality. Format changes adjust grouping and folding parts.
- Safety: Folding and pressing units, glue systems and shrink tunnels create crushing, shearing and thermal hazards. Guarding and interlocks address them; residual risks go into the information for use.
- Documentation: Provide format change instructions, blank and glue specifications and troubleshooting for common defects such as open glue flaps.
Tray packer vs. case packer
A tray packer makes an open tray pack; a Case packer fills closed cases. Many machines can do both with different formats.
