In one sentence
TwinCAT 3.1 Build 4022 is an earlier TwinCAT 3 release line, still found on many installed machines, that preceded Build 4024.
Example
A service engineer has to install Build 4022 engineering on a laptop to go online with a machine delivered years ago, instead of upgrading the project.
How it applies
- Maintenance: Machines in the field run the build they were delivered with. Going online, changing code or replacing an IPC may require the same build, or a deliberate, tested upgrade.
- Upgrade decisions: Moving a project from 4022 to a newer build can change library versions and runtime behavior. Such upgrades are changes to the machine software and need testing and Change control.
- Security: Older builds receive fewer or no updates over time. The site's security concept should cover how long they remain acceptable, see Deprecation path.
- Documentation: Record the exact build (including sub-version) per machine in the configuration records. Service documentation should explain how to determine the installed build on the machine.
Build 4022 vs. Build 4024
Build 4024 succeeded 4022 and became widely used for new projects. The specific differences are listed in the vendor's release notes; check them before an upgrade.
Keep in mind: product names and features change. Check build support status and release notes against the vendor's current documentation.
