UpdatedDPP data authentication, reliability and integrity
Also known as: DPP data integrity, DPP data trust, passport data authentication
In the digital product passport, data authentication shows where a value comes from, reliability shows whether it can be trusted for its purpose, and integrity shows that it has remained correct and unchanged since approval. Together they make passport data traceable to evidence: source, owner, approval status, version and update process.

In one sentence
Authentication shows where DPP data comes from, reliability whether it can be trusted, and integrity that it stayed correct and unchanged.
Example
The recycled-content value in a passport links to the supplier certificate it came from, the engineer who approved it, the approval date and version, and the rule that it is rechecked with every new supplier batch.
How it applies
- Authentication: Record the origin of each value — system, supplier, measurement or document — and who supplied it.
- Reliability: Judge whether the source is fit for the claim. A supplier declaration, a lab test and an estimate have different weight; say which one it is.
- Integrity: Protect approved values against unnoticed change, for example with version history and controlled write access; see DPP access rights.
- Evidence per field: Link each field to its source, owner, approval status, version and update process — an evidence chain for product data, supported by traceability.
- Standards: EN 18246:2026 addresses these topics. It is published but not cited in the Official Journal; until it is, applying it gives no presumption of conformity and companies justify their own mechanisms.
Compared with the USA, Canada and China
US import rules on forced labor put the burden of proving supply-chain facts on the importer, which requires the same kind of evidence per claim. Canadian reports and Chinese battery records likewise depend on reliable source data, but the EU passport exposes part of it publicly.
