Operations performance

German: Betriebsleistung

In ISA-95 / IEC 62264, operations performance is the information reporting the results of performed manufacturing operations, such as actual quantities, resources used, times and status, in response to an operations schedule. Production performance is its production-specific form.

  • MES
  • Standards

In one sentence

In ISA-95, operations performance reports the results of executed operations, such as quantities, resources used, times and status.

Example

After the shift, the MES sends the operations performance to the ERP: 9,850 good units, 150 rejects, materials consumed and labor hours.

How it applies

  • Operation: Performance data closes the loop between planning and execution; it shows what was really produced, maintained, tested or moved.
  • Business planning: The ERP uses it for inventory, costing and order status.
  • Improvement: Performance analysis at Level 3 derives KPIs such as Overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) from the same data.
  • Documentation: Interface specifications should define each reported value, its unit and when it is sent. User documentation should explain how operators confirm quantities and how corrections are handled, since reported values end up in business records.

Operations performance vs. operations schedule

The Operations schedule is the request (what should be done). Operations performance is the response (what was done). ISA-95 pairs them explicitly.
